Express Entry is the online management system used by the Canadian government to process permanent residency applications for skilled workers. It is not an immigration program in itself, but rather a pool of candidates ranked based on their skills.
The Three Programs Managed by Express Entry
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): Designed for workers with skilled work experience gained abroad.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): Aimed at candidates who have at least one year of recent skilled work experience obtained directly in Canada.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): Tailored for skilled workers in specific manual or technical trades (construction, mechanics, culinary arts, etc.).
- Prior Eligibility: Pass an official language test (IELTS/CELPIP for English or TEF/TCF for French) and obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for diplomas obtained outside Canada.
- Online Submission: Complete a free profile on the IRCC portal by providing information regarding your identity, work experience, education, and family composition.
- Pool Entry: Once the profile is validated, the candidate enters the Express Entry pool for up to 12 months.
